September, 2008- Amy O'Donnel finds PSAT tag in Tralee, Ireland
In one of our most exciting recaptures, the Large Pelagics Research Lab learned on October 22, 2008 that the tag that was recovered by Amy was tagged in Nova Scotia on October 19, 2005 and began reporting on September 19, 2006. The track revealed that the tagged fish had traveled from Nova Scotia to Spain and back in the span of just 11 months. The fish was caught only days later (without the tag attached) by Garth Nickerson in Nova Scotia (see picture below). He was able to collect the tether from his captured fish and call us with the information. Amazingly, the "popped-off" tag drifted to Ireland only to be found TWO YEARS later by Amy on a beach in Tralee (see photo right). Hopefully, we will be able to glean a more complete track from this fish during it's journey across the Atlantic. Thanks again to Amy and Garth for of your help!
